Daytime pub grub

Obviously, we recommend that you come to visit us at The Hope & Anchor. We’re proud to be a friendly, riverside inn offering wholesome, home-cooked food plus afternoon tea during the day. By night we have a cocktail bar and have a whole host of events on throughout the year that might be right up your street.

Family-friendly activities

If your children are fascinated by animals or insects, why not visit the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo? You can all walk amongst tropical butterflies free-flying and see them sipping nectar from flowers. There’s also a mini golf course with 12 holes, a visitor centre, plus a tea room and church to wander around.

Alternatively, if you’ve got children who need to burn off a lot of energy, check out the Detective Mystery Treasure Walking Trail around Ross-on-Wye. It’s approximately 2 miles long, takes 2 hours to complete and is suitable for adults and children aged six and over. As you follow the route, you must solve the clues set on buildings and monuments to eliminate the suspects and discover who committed the crime. All correct answers are entered into the monthly £100 prize draw.

Shop ‘til you drop

If you enjoy finding vintage gems and shopping for retro items, you’ll love The Vintage Shopping Trail in Ross-on-Wye. Thirteen independent shops have formed a ‘trail’ around Ross-on-Wye with antiques, collectables, vintage clothing and jewellery on offer. Suitable for serious buyers as well as window shoppers, it provides a beautiful tour of the town and can end with a bite to eat or drink in one of the many cafés.

Go for a wild swim

Along the River Wye in Bredwardine, you can go for a chilly dip if you’re brave enough to face it. This charming spot is situated near the old brick bridge with a gravelled side and a slow stream. You can simply paddle and have a picnic alongside the river or, choose to swim up to the foot of the bridge and fully immerse yourself for a rejuvenating experience.

Cheers to the weekend! We hope you found these ideas useful and that you have an amazing time exploring our wonderful town of Ross-on-Wye. Don’t forget to pop in and say hi at The Hope & Anchor.
