While visiting or staying local to Herefordshire, why not plan a day to visit a local animal park or zoo? There are plenty nearby to choose from – some with both indoor and outdoor options, just in case the weather isn’t on your side. We’ve rounded up the best wildlife centres in and around Herefordshire for you. In your quest to discover a brilliant family attraction, look no further.

Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, Ross-on-Wye

Who doesn’t like butterflies? They’re delightful to look at and also very interesting to learn about too. Experience the joy of the insect world’s most beautiful members at the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo. You can walk amongst free-flying tropical butterflies in the indoor hothouse and see them sipping nectar, finding a mate and laying eggs.

Then you’ve got the Roman Ruin-themed mini golf. It’s a little course of 12 holes with accessibility features.

Finally, the Visitor Centre offers indoor and outdoor picnicking facilities, great tourist information, the Tea Room Cafe and Riverside Church.

The Falconry Centre, Stourbridge

Ideal for bird enthusiasts, The Falconry Centre is run by a small, dedicated team who are all passionate about birds of prey. It’s home to over 80 birds and 30 species from around the world. Every day there are flying displays, talks and feeding, plus handling experiences if you want to get closer. Discover eagles, hawks, falcons and owls. Make sure you stop for a coffee, lunch or treat in the garden centre café too.

All Things Wild Nature Centre, Evesham

The All Things Wild Nature Centre has everything from indoor play areas to outdoor animal enclosures, plus an exciting dinosaur experience that kids are sure to love.

From reptiles to zebras, you can learn all about the animals here. There are also fun play areas – both indoor and outdoor – plus pedal tractors and go-karts to ride on.

WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucester

Discover the WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre offering families exciting, close wildlife encounters. From hand feeding rare geese to spotting species of flamingo, plus exploring the waterways on the Canoe Safari or driving out to the wider reserve by 4×4 – there’s so much fun to be had here.

There are daily events, including otter and amphibian talks, Scott House tours and free-flying bird demonstrations. There’s also a play tower at River Life with a wobbly bridge and slide.

Slimbridge has a large free car park for visitors. There’s a restaurant in the Visitor Centre and two kiosks in the playgrounds.
