At The Hope & Anchor, our aim is to use the highest quality, locally sourced produce in all of our dishes. This means that when dining with us, you can count on lots of fresh produce that has been sourced locally, supporting small businesses and suppliers. It’s tasty, wholesome and better for the environment. Discover our top four flavourful foods below and read all about where they come from.

Wye Valley Salads

Our stunning Wye Valley salads are sourced from Barba Di Frate. It supplies award-winning speciality salads, edible flowers and heritage tomatoes to other local restaurants and pubs. The company grows more than 150 varieties of leaves, herbs and edible flowers. Each salad is unique as they are picked and blended based on which leaves and flowers are freshest and best on the day. Barba Fi Frate is renowned for its outstanding products, and the business has grown simply through word of mouth. The fresh salads are delivered locally from the company’s market garden in Ross-on-Wye.

Netherend Farm Butter

Nothing beats fresh, crusty bread with lashings of creamy butter. We love butter and think it should be of high quality for a premium taste. That’s why we source ours from Netherend Farm, Gloucester. It’s a family business that started in 1936. In the ‘90s, the business expanded rapidly after being discovered by a London-based dairy distributor whilst on holiday in the Wye Valley. Soon after that, Netherend butter was being supplied to London’s top hotels and restaurants. The butter is traditionally churned in a stainless-steel churn and there are no additives, preservatives or colouring. As the company motto says: “It tastes like proper butter should!”

Brooke’s Wye Valley Welsh Gold Ice Cream

Indulgent ice cream is something to be relished on a hot day. We like our ice cream to be creamy, pure and delicious. That’s why we have ours delivered by local dairy producer, Brooke’s. The delicious ice creams are made on the company’s working family farm. Every process, from breeding the cows, to milking, and then turning the milk into ice cream, happens on the farm, which is a rarity. There are no artificial colourings or preservatives, and rich double cream is used to create an unforgettable taste of homemade ice cream. There are also no palm oil, gluten or GM ingredients.

Severn and Wye Smoked Salmon

Our tasty smoked salmon is sourced by the Severn & Wye Smokery. It’s situated on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean between two of England’s most reputable salmon rivers. The company practises the old-fashioned art of smoking, using only the highest quality salmon. The salmon is smoked over oak wood chips and shavings, and then matured for at least three days. Each slice is evenly smoked for a succulent melt-in-the-mouth texture with a strong, smoky outer layer.

If you’re a foodie, your mouth is probably watering after reading all that. Come visit us to fill your stomach and enjoy a flavoursome, wholesome meal with fresh, local ingredients.
